Major issue at Cloudflare impacting a number of sites and services (X, ChatGPT, Downdetector)
According to multiple sources, CloudFlare has acknowledged a what it is calling a “major issue affecting its Global Network” causing widespread outages on sites and platforms like downdetector.com, X, Amazon, ChatGPT, Uber and more as well as a number of cloud services. Additional information is available below.
It’s worth noting that this is a single company that effectively carries one fifth of the Internet’s traffic and a hiccup at this company is causing ripples to multiple systems across the Internet. Similar to the recent Crowdstrike issue a few months ago, an outage (or attack) on this one company can have a crippling affect on systems worldwide. Leveraging the cloud to help augment your systems can definitely be a good thing but this is yet another example of how outsourcing everything to the cloud may not be the right move.
