Update: RMM Tool Issue — Investigating Unexpected Server Reboots
We are currently working with the vendor for our Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tool to identify an issue causing some servers to reboot without notice. We are working closely with the engineering team at the RMM company and are actively reviewing alternatives in case the vendor can’t get this matter resolved quickly. As updates are available and when the matter is resolved, I will post them here.
The specific issue that we’re seeing is that two Windows Server 2025 servers rebooted without warning today. In both cases, we were able to positively confirm that the RMM initiated the reboot.
- 2026.10.27 @ 0713 – The first of two servers rebooted.
- 2026.10.17 @ 1702 – The second of two servers rebooted.
- 2026.10.27 @ 1811 – We believe that we have identified an errant script as the cause of the reboots in both cases. The script was used to check for and, if missing, install an update and in the case of these two servers it triggered a reboot. We have disabled the script globally and are actively monitoring the environment for any other unscheduled reboots.
