The Last-Minute Crunch Is Here: FortiGate 60F and UniFi Cloud Key Availability Just Got Real

If you’ve been waiting to replace your FortiGate 60E before its December 29, 2026 end-of-life date, or if you’re planning a new network build around the FortiGate 60F, it’s time to move.

We just received our first backorder notification for the FortiGate 60F. The supply chain that has been holding steady is now showing cracks, and the lead times we warned clients about earlier this year are starting to materialize.

It’s not just Fortinet. Ubiquiti Cloud Keys — the core controller for any UniFi network — are out of stock at every distributor we checked, and Ubiquiti’s own website lists them with “no restock date available.” Historically, that phrasing means Ubiquiti is clearing inventory ahead of a product refresh, which leaves anyone holding off on an order in limbo until the replacement launches and channels refill.

Also worth factoring into the timing: threat actors have been disproportionately targeting network perimeter devices this year. Fortinet and Ubiquiti have both seen active exploitation of disclosed vulnerabilities — FortiSandbox CVE-2026-39808 (CVSS 9.8, public proof-of-concept available) and multiple Ivanti Connect Secure zero-days are recent examples of the pattern. The common thread is that attackers understand edge devices sit between the internet and everything else, and an unpatched or unsupported firewall or access point is a direct path in. Running a FortiGate 60E past its December 29 end-of-life date means no more security patches, no more IPS signature updates, and no vendor support if something goes wrong. That doesn’t guarantee an incident, but it does guarantee that if a new exploit drops, the device won’t be defended against it.

Add holiday shipping congestion into the mix — carriers prioritize retail volume in November and December, which reliably pushes business freight timelines out by days or weeks — and the window for getting infrastructure in place before the end of the year is closing fast.

What this means for you:

– FortiGate 60E replacements: If your firewall is approaching EOL and you want to avoid running unsupported hardware into 2027, place the order now. The 60F is still the right replacement for most small-to-mid-size networks, but availability is no longer guaranteed.
– New network builds: If your plan includes a UniFi Cloud Key, factor in the possibility of a delay or a temporary workaround (such as running the UniFi Network application on a local server) until stock returns.
– Holiday logistics: Anything ordered after mid-November should be assumed to arrive in January unless explicitly confirmed otherwise.

We don’t lead with supply chain panic, but we also don’t pretend the constraints — or the threat landscape — aren’t real. If you’re on the fence about timing, this is the push. Get your orders in before availability, shipping windows, and the next vulnerability disclosure make the decision for you.
