Possible Microsoft 365 Outage

MicrosoftWe don’t have any details as of the time of this post but we are currently experiencing issues with inbound mail from Microsoft 365. We have confirmed that that mail is queuing at our mail filter provider Proofpoint, further suggesting an issue at Microsoft.

The Microsoft Status page is currently showing offline but the Microsoft 365 Twitter / X Account notes :

“We’re investigating a potential issue impacting multiple Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview. Further information can be found in the admin center under MO1221364.”.

We will post updates here as we learn more.

  • 2026.01.23 @ 0833 – Late night last night, we started seeing indicators that the Microsoft environment was back online and services were running. An interesting thing that we noted though was that there were some DNS changes that seemed to start happening right around the time of the outage. Specifically, things like https://admin.microsoft.com was (and still is) redirecting to https://admin.cloud.microsoft.
  • 2026.01.22 @ 1630 – At this point, we aren’t seeing services return but we are seeing other services seeming to break. The Admin center is intermittently available, the Microsoft status page is intermittently available, mail seems to be completely down for us and a large number of our clients, Azure seems to be having trouble.
  • 2026.01.22 @ 1531 – On the https://x.com/MSFT365Status Twitter account, they’re providing a link to status.cloud.microsoft but the link is broken
  • 2026.01.22 @ 1527 – I was finally able to get back into our Microsoft 365 Admin Portal but it’s now reporting an error and “Invalid Date”. Interesting, many of the URLs are now adding cloud. For example, admin.microsoft.com is redirecting to admin.cloud.microsoft
