Preparations for potential severe weather

Uncategorized
With so many companies transitioning some, most or all of their workforce to teleworking and the potential for severe weather over the next day or so, it's likely that a number of organizations will start the day tomorrow with outages and connectivity problems. It's a little close to the wire but we wanted to reach out with some quick thoughts on managing weather-related issues or outages. Appoint a person or small group as a primary point of contact for problems. Funnel all support requests and reports through that person or small group. With so many people working remote, it's likely that large groups of workers will impacted by the same or similar events (e.g., everyone with Comcast is down, everyone with AT&T is down, everyone in Marietta is down, everyone…

Office Temporarily Closed & Site Visits Suspended

CTC NEWS, Monthly Newsletters
The health and well-being of our team and our clients is of paramount importance to Kristy and me.  We have been carefully monitoring the news, recommendations of medical professionals and government officials and, at this point, the risk posed to our team and clients by continuing to keep the office open and travel to client sites far outweighs the benefit.  Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and well-being of our team and our clients, we are temporarily closing the Cyber Tech Café office and suspending all on site visits / work.  We will continue to be available via phone (770.386.8900), email (help@ctc.co) and our website (https://www.ctc.co) .  Our business hours will remain the same (Monday through Friday, 9:00am until 5:00pm ET and 8:00am until 5:00pm…

Bad guys seizing opportunity to attack remote workers

CTC NEWS, Industry News, Tech news
With the surge in people working from home and often no longer having the protection of the corporate firewall or their peers to warn them of mass phishing emails and the like, we are seeing a surge in social based attacks like phishing and phone based tech support scams. Below are some quick things to keep in mind. Have a well communicated process for anything that involves money. One of the types of attacks that we're seeing is the 'money mule' attack, where the attacker tries to leverage an emergency need from an authority figure (CxO, Finance, Owner, etc.) to someone with access to funds to transfer money quickly. Make certain that you have a way to absolutely authenticate a request to transfer funds before doing so. Some examples would…
